About my art journey …

I don’t just create visual art and video content about nature, I work with nature ‘hands-on’, I have researched it, and I immerse myself in nature every single day — whether at home or elsewhere. Creating, sharing and fostering deeper connections with nature is the purpose of all my work. To support these creative outputs, my “day job” is being a Ranger for the Department for Environment and Water in South Australia.

I have many career experiences (which you can read about on LinkedIn) but working as an artist is a more recent development. Here’s a summary of my art journey so far…

2021 — I began a largely self-taught art practice as a wellbeing activity during my PhD research. I started experimenting with graphite and oil pastels, as well as enjoying a short course in anatomical drawing at Adelaide Central School of Art. (2022 and 2023 I was very busy moving house, working in research full time and trying to complete my doctoral thesis.)

2024 & 2025 — I planned and facilitated six conservation ecology workshops, and two SALA exhibitions for year 10 and 12 students at Victor Harbor High School. These students produced artworks and short talks for guests at the launch of their exhibitions — which were held at the South Australian Whale Centre.

2025 — My first SALA exhibition, with two works in ‘Wild by Nature’ at Pepper Street Art Centre, including a demonstration of pastel techniques. I also displayed five works at Planter and Loft Café Kent Town.

2026 — My second SALA season, ‘Inside Z Ward’ I displayed 10 works in a joint exhibition of local artists. After a successful exhibition, I was invited by The National Trust, to be the pet portrait artist at their very first ‘Puppy picnic’ - held at the historic Beaumont House.
